BANKING STATISTICS FOR AUGUST

Bank deposita at the end of August stood at $48,814 million,

comprising $11,749 million in demand deposits, $18,022 million in time

deposits and $19,043 million in savings deposits.

There were 74 licensed banks in Hong Kong on August 31.

The following tables released today by the Commissioner of Banking

give a detailed breakdown of bank liabilities and assets and money supply

for the month.
