GOVERNMENT TO SPEND $60 MILLION ON DEVELOP.ENT OF
OUTLYING ISLANDS
Government is expected to spend about $60 million on the first
stage enginearing works to develop outlying islands.
Disclosing this today on RTHK's Chinese service "New Territories

weekly" programne, the District Officer Islands, Mr. Victor Yung, said Government has already drafted four development layouts on outlying islanda.
"These four development layouts are at Muf Wo and Tai O on Lantau
Island, and on Cheung Chau and Peng Chau Islands," he added.
At the same time, Mr. Yung said, the development plan on Lamma
Island was also being actively studied by Government. "I believe that the
layout will soon be announced."
"Duvelopment plans for the existing four layouts will mainly include
public housing and other related facilities such as markets, cooked-food
stalls and recreational facilities.
The District. Officer also gave a brief account of the development
plans for each of the four areas.

At Tai 0, there will be public housing to accommodate about 3,000
islanders. About 60 per cent of the reclamation work hrva been 'complcted
and it is estimated that the reclamation will be completed in March next
year and then it will be handed over to the Housing Authority for the construction of public housing. It is expected that flats will be ready
for occupation by 1979.

At Mui Wo, development plan also includes reclamation work.
new pior will be built for large and small ferries, including the Hong Kong
Yaumati triple-deckers.
