The first treatment centre for young offenders was established in

Stanley in 1953 and this marked the beginning of the expansion programme

of the department which today runs 18 institutions.

Dr. Lee said some of these institutions are among the best organised

and modern correctional institutions in the world.

He also told the officers at the passing out parade that they would

find the work of a Prison Officer not merely confined to ensuring the safe

custody of persons convicted and sentenced by the courts.

"It can be much more meaningful and rewarding in terms of job

satisfaction, working conditions and career prospects," said Dr. Lee.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF HOI FOO STREET

A section of lioi Foo Street botwoun Shau Kei Wan Road and Sại Wan

Ho Street will be closed to traffic for about three months from 10 a.u, on

Wednesday (October 5) to facilitate the laying of cables.

At the same time, the suction of Sai Ven Ho Street between Hoi An

Street and Hoi Foo Street will be re-routed two way. Appropriate traffic

signs will be set up to guide motorists.
