FLYOVER TO LINK POK FU LAM AND WESTERN
York will begin early next year on a multi-million-dollar flyover
to provide a fast route between Pok Fu Lan and Central District. The 660-
metre flyover will form part of the mid-levels traffic improvement scheme.
The flyover project, designed by the Highways Office of the Public
Works Department, will also involve the re-alignment of a section of Hill
Road and modification of the existing drainage works.
Tenders for the work were invited by the P..D. today.
Mr. K.Y. Ho, Acting Chief Engineer of P.W.D.'s Highways Office
(Hong Kong), said: "The two-lane elevated road, which will provide a fast
route for east-bound traffic, will start from No. 79B, Pok Fu Lam Road and
run along Hill Road to connect with Connaught Road West near its junction
with Water Street.
"The west-bound traffic will be at ground level running from
Connaught Road West and Des Voeux Road West via Testern Street and the
eastern section of Pok Fu Lan Hoad to the intersection of Pok Fu Lan Road
and Bonham Road."
Mr. Ho said that with the rapid development in Aberdeen and Pok
Fu Lau areas, there had been a simific at increase in traffic movements
on the existing road network linking the Central District, Fok Fu Lam and
Aberdeen areas.

To cater for the increase in traffic need, major road widening
works are being carried out in Pok Fu Lan Road and Chek Pai Jan Road,
said.
Work on the flyover is expected to begin in January next year and
take about 26 months to commlate.
