OVER $260 MILLION WORTH OF BUILDINGS COMPLETED IN AUGUST

The total declared cost of new buildings completed in August
amounted to $260.59 million, according to figures issued today by the
Buildings Ordinance Office of the Fublic Works Department.
This compares with $112.42 million in the same month last year.
The total usable floor area of the new buildings completed
last month amounted to 281,976.8 square metres, comprising 169447.9
square metres of non-domestic floor area and 111,628.9 square metres of

Plans for a 41-storey (commercial building in Great George Street,
a petrol filling station at Chai Wan, a church and youth centre: at Yuen
Long, a student hostel at the Chinese University and the Cho Yiu Chuen
Estate Centre were amoung:71 building plans approved last month by the war
Buildings Ordinance Office.
Of these plans approved, 25 were for projects on Hong Kong
Island, 15 for Kowloon and 31 for the New Territories.
During the month, the Buildings Ordinance Office gave consent
for work to start on 40 new building projects, including a power station
at the junction of Argyle Street and Shamchun Street, a telephone exchange
at Tsing Yi Island and a school extension at Yuen Long.
Forty-nine completed buildings were certified for occupation
last month. They included a school of nine storeys at the junction of:
Tin Hau Temple Road and Cloud View Road and a petrol service station.
at Pokfulam Road.

The Buildings Ordinance Office also consented to the demolition
of 43 buildings.
