MORE SPACE AND IMPROVED ENVIRONMENT -FOR: LICENSED AREA RESIDENTS

People taking up temporary housing in licensed areas will have
more living space in future as well as improved facilities.
The Housing Authority, after a careful study of the welfare and
living standards of tenants in licensed areas, has decided to raise the
to Jaurenti te allocation standard to about 24 square feet per person.

This new space standard will be applied to future allocations
in licensed areas currently under construction.

A spokesman for the Authority said the decision followed on
another big step taken recently to improve living conditions in licensed
areas.
The programme includes the provision of proper house water and
electricity supplies to 15 old licensed areas where 25,700 people live
and the introduction of new-style licensed areas with part-built structures
with facilities such as metered electricity and house water as well as
telephone lines.
