The decision to clear all old licensed areas where no

proper electricity and housewater supply was available was announced

by Mr. Ian Lightbody, Secretary for Housing, in the Legislative Council

nine months ago.

Mr. Lightbody told the Council that he hoped to clear all

old licensed areas within the year.

This scheme is now nearing completion and the last 1,000

residents of the two remaining old areas will have the chance of

moving into public housing in the next month or two.
