STATEMENT BY THE DIRECTOR OF HOUSING, MR. D.P.H. LIAO,

TO MARK THE SIGNING OF A CONTRACT

TO BUILD THE FIRST PHASE OF THE EXTENSION TO CHEUNG CHING ESTATE, TSING YI ISLAND. HELD AT THE HOUSING AUTHORITY HEADQUARTERS ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH. 1976

"The contract being signed today is for the extension to the first phase

of Cheung Ching Estate on Tsing Yi Island.

"Valued at approximately $32.3 million, it is due for completion in

"It will be recalled that, just under two years ago, a contract was signed for the first phase of Cheung Ching Estate valued at $91.7 million, the largest

"Since April 1973, when the present Authority was formed, 25 building contracts have been awarded by the Housing Department and Public Works Department, with a value of about $840 million, providing accommodation for upwards of 318,000

people.

"Eight of those contracts have already been completed, providing accommodat-

ion for 108,000 people.
