TAI WO HAU REHOUSING OPERATION BEGINS

Tenants Offered Improved Living Flats

The Tai Wo Hau Redevelopment Scheme will initially involve the

transfer of about 4,300 people to new homes with improved living environment beginning today (Tuesday).

A new office manned by staff of the Redevelopment Division of the

Housing Department has been set up at Block 1 of the estate to assist tenants in their rehousing arrangements.

Today, letters giving details of the scheme were delivered to

the 803 families in Block 12 and 13 who will be rehoused under the first

phase of the scheme.

They will be offered accommodation in Kwai Shing II/III and

Lai King Estates. Rent for a typical five-person self-contained flat of

244 square feet at Kwai Shing will be $176 per month,

The Housing Department is fully aware that some tenants may have

various difficulties. Private interviews will be arranged with such

tenants to ascertain the nature of their needs and how to resolve their

problems,

Lower rent accommodation in other estates in the Tsuen Wan/

Kwai Chung district has been held in reserve for families who cannot

afford the rents at Kwai Shing and Lai King Estates.

An inter-departmental assistance committee has also been set up

to consider help for needy families requiring financial assistance to cover

removal and redecoration expenses.

Blocks 12 and 13 will be demolished to make way for new tower

blocks which in turn will facilitate the rehousing of other tenants.

Tai Wo Hau Estate will be modernised in due course to incorporate

self-contained flats for about 30,000 people together with a complete range

of ancillary facilities.
