PING YEUNG SAN CHUEN SQUATTER AREA CLEARED
The Ping Yeung San Chuen squatter area was cleared today
(Thursday) to make way for the construction of the Po Kong Interchange--
an important road project to ease traffic flow in Po Kong Village Road
and Lung Cheung Road.
When completed in 1977, the flyover network, will provide an
easy access route from Choi Hung Road to Lung Cheung Road.
In today's operation, Housing Department demolition teams
cleared about 100 remaining structures on the site. Some 500 other huts
in the squatter area had either been demolished by their occupants or
by the clearance staff during the past few weeks.
A total of 1,814 people from 451 families have been offered
public housing in Lam Tin or Sau Mau Ping Estates and 461 people from
125 families not eligible for public housing have been allocated sites
at Kowloon Bay Licensed Area.
Ex-gratia allowances totalling about $120,000, and 84 units in
Kowloon Bay factory estates have been offered to 56 shop, factory or
workshop operators affected by the clearance.
