NORTH KOWLOON TRAFFIC DIVERSIONS FOR MTR ·

IN PREPARATION FOR THE START OF WORK ON THE FIRST SECTION OF THE MODIFIED INITIAL SYSTEM OF THE MASS TRANSIT RAILWAY, DETAILS OF A NUMBER OF STREETS AFFECTED BY THE CONSTRUCTION ARE NOTIFIED IN TODAY'S GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.
TRAFFIC MOVEMENTS IN NORTH KOWLOON WILL UNAVOIDABLY BE AFFECTED BY THE CONSTRUCTION, BUT EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO ENSURE THAT PUBLIC INCONVENIENCE IS KEPT TO A MINIMUM.
THE STREETS THAT WILL BE AFFECTED ARE AS FOLLOWS:
IN KOWLOON TONG, THE WIDTH OF SUFFOLK ROAD WILL BE REDUCED TO TWO TRAFFIC LANES AND ONE FOOTPATH TO ALLOW FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF KOWLOON TONG STATION. PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICULAR ACCESS TO ADJACENT PROPERTIES WILL BE MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE CONSTRUCTION.
LUNG CHEUNG ROAD BETWEEN MORSE PARK AND SHATIN PASS ROAD WILL
BE REDUCED TO THREE TRAFFIC LANES IN WIDTH TO PERMIT THE CONSTRUCTION OF WONG TAI SIN STATION. ALSO, MING TAK STREET WILL BE CLOSED FOR PART OF ITS LENGTH BUT AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE HAS ALREADY BEEN PROVIDED. ADEQUATE PEDESTRIAN FACILITIES FOR RESIDENTS OF NEARBY ESTATES WILL BE MAINTAINED.
LUNG CHEUNG ROAD BETWEEN THE NEW PO KONG VILLAGE AND CHOI HUNG INTERCHANGES WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF DIAMOND HILL STATION AND THE CUT AND COVER TUNNELS BETWEEN DIAMOND HILL AND CHOI HUNG STATIONS. WEST OF HAMMER HILL ROAD THERE WILL BE VERY LITTLE EFFECT ON TRAFFIC AS THE STATION AND TUNNELS ARE ALMOST ENTIRELY UNDER THE NORTHERN PART OF LUNG CHEUNG ROAD WHICH HAS YET TO BE CONSTRUCTED. EAST OF HAMMER HILL ROAD THE EXISTING LUNG CHEUNG ROAD WILL BE REDUCED TO TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC IN EACH DIRECTION. FOOTPATHS AND MINOR ACCESS ROADS WILL BE MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT CONSTRUCTION.

CLEARWATER BAY ROAD NEAR PING SHEK ESTATE WILL BE REDUCED IN WIDTH TO ALLOW FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF CHOI HUNG STATION ACROSS IT. ROADS WITHIN PING SHEK ESTATE WILL ALSO NEED TO BE REDUCED TO ALLOW FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE STATION AND THE EXISTING BUS TERMINUS WILL BE REPOSITIONED TO ANOTHER LOCATION WITHIN THE ESTATE.
PART OF BOUNDARY AND SAI YEUNG CHOI STREETS WILL BE REDUCED IN WIDTH FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE CUT AND COVER TUNNELS WHICH WILL CONNECT THE NATHAN ROAD SECTION OF THE RAILWAY TO SHEK KIP MEI STATION. PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICULAR ACCESS TO ADJACENT PROPERTIES WILL BE MAINTAINED.
WORK ON THE WHOLE OF THE NORTH KOWLOON SECTION OF THE MASS TRANSIT RAILWAY FROM BOUNDARY STREET NORTHEASTWARDS TO CHOI HUNG STATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN BETWEEN NOVEMBER THIS YEAR AND JANUARY 1976 AND BE COMPLETED WITHIN THREE TO FOUR YEARS.
