THE ROUTES TO BE OPERATED BY THE COMPANIES ARE LAID DOWN IN THE SCHEDULE OF ROUTES ORDERS AND THEESE INCLUDE DETAILS OF BUS TERMINI AND INTERMEDIATE STOPS FOR EACH ROUTE.
THE SCALE OF FARES FOR BOTH KMB AND CMB ARE ALSO LAID DOWN AND THESE WILL LIST THE FARES CURRENTLY IN FORCE FOR THE CARRIAGE OF PASSENGERS, BAGGAGE AND GOODS WHICH ARE APPLICABLE TO A SPECIFIED ROUTE OR GROUP OF ROUTES THAT WILL BE OPERATED BY THE COMPANIES.
FURTHER CONTROLS ON THE OPERATIONS OF THE TWO COMPANIES ARE LAID DOWN IN THE PUBLIC OMNIBUS SERVICES ORDINANCE 1975, WHICH DESIGNATES THE COMMISSIONER FOR TRANSPORT AS THE AUTHORITY FOR ADMINISTERING THESE CONTROLS.
THE PUBLIC OMNIBUS SERVICES ORDINANCE ALSO PROVIDES FOR THE GOVERNOR TO APPOINT UP TO TWO DIRECTORS TO THE BOARDS OF DIRECTORS OF BOTH KMB AND CMD. THESE DIRECTORS WOULD BE EMPOWERED TO REPRESENT THE PUBLIC INTEREST RATHER THAN THAT OF THE SHAREHOLDERS. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE APPOINTMENT OF THESE DIRECTORS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
COMMENTING ON THE FRANCHISES, A GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN SAID THAT, ALTHOUGH THE NEGOTIATIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLEX AND HAVE THUS TAKEN MORE THAN 18 MONTHS TO COMPLETE, THEY HAVE RESULTED IN THE ENACTMENT OF MORE UP TO DATE LEGISLATION - THE PUBLIC OMNIBUS SERVICES ORDINANCE 1975 - AS WELL AS THE NEW FRANCHISES, WHICH MORE ADEQUATELY TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE NEEDS OF BOTH THE TRAVELLING PUBLIC AND THE TWO COMPANIES IN PRESENT DAY CONDITIONS.
+IN PARTICULAR THE ORDINANCE AND THE FRANCHISES TOGETHER PROVIDE FOR MORE ADEQUATE AND. EFFECTIVE CONTROL OVER THE CURRENT OPERATIONS OF THE COMPANIES, AS WELL AS THEIR FUTURE EXPANSION PLANS, THAN HAS BEEN POSSIBLE IN THE PAST,+ HE SAID.
+THIS IS PARTICULARLY THE CASE IN RESPECT OF THE FRANCHISES BEING EXPRESSED IN TERMS OF ROUTES, THE APPOINTMENT OF GOVERNMENT DIRECTORS TO THE BOARDS OF DIRECTORS OF BOTH KMB AND CMB AND THE MORE EFFECTIVE POWERS PROVIDED TO MONITOR THE PERFORMANCE OF THE COMPANIES,+ HE ADDED.
