THIS TIME, THE CITY DISTRICT OFFICE STAFF TOOK IMMEDIATE ACTION. AFTER LENGTHY PERSUASION AND ENCOURAGEMENT, THE RESIDENTS AGREED TO ELECT ONE REPRESENTATIVE FROM EACH FLOOR AS A TEMPORARY MEASURE, TO COLLECT MONTHLY MANAGEMENT FEES OF $40 A FLAT TO PAY THE OUTSTANDING ELECTRICITY BILLS AND THE COST OF RESUMING THE LIFT SERVICE.
INSPIRED BY THE SUCCESS, THE C.D.0. STAFF CONTINUED THEIR EFFORTS TO PERSUADE SUITABLE PEOPLE FROM THE OWNERS TO ACT AS THE FUTURE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS. AS MALE OWNERS HAD EXPRESSED THEIR DIFFICULTY IN FINDING TIME FOR SUCH DUTIES, THE HOUSEWIVES WERE ENCOURAGED TO TAKE UP THIS RESPONSIBILITY.
THIS PROVED TO BE A SUCCESS. AT A GENERAL MEETING IN AUGUST, A CHAIRWOMAN, A SECRETARY AND EIGHT FLAT-OWNERS WERE ELECTED AS OFFICIALS OF THE NEW OWNERS CORPORATION AND A NEW MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE WAS FORMED UNDER IT.
THE MANAGEMENT OF THE BUILDING, WHICH WAS LITERALLY GIVEN A NEW LEASE OF LIFE, HAS BEEN OPERATING SMOOTHLY SINCE.
IN SUMMING UP, THE SPOKESMAN SAID: +EVERYONE WANTS TO LIVE IN A PROPERLY MANAGED BUILDING. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THIS, THE RESIDENTS MUST COOPERATE AND TAKE PART IN IMPROVING AS WELL AS MAINTAINING THE STANDARDS OF BUILDING MANAGEMENT.+
