+FOR THESE PRACTICAL REASONS, THE STANDARDS OF CHINESE AND ENGLISH MUST BE MAINTAINED, AND INDEED, IF POSSIBLE, IMPROVED, AND PARENTS ARE LIKELY TO DEMAND THAT THEY SHOULD BE. THESE CONSIDERATIONS SUGGEST THE NEED FOR A BALANCED APPROACH.
+ IT IS THE GOVERNMENT'S INTENTION THAT INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL AUTHORITIES SHOULD THEMSELVES DECIDE WHETHER THE MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION SHOULD BE ENGLISH OR CHINESE FOR ANY PARTICULAR SUBJECT IN JUNIOR SECONDARY FORMS.
+THIS WILL FACILITATE THE ADOPTION OF APPROPRIATE MEASURES TO ENSURE THAT THERE IS NO DROP IN THE STANDARD OF ENGLISH OF THOSE CONTINUING THEIR EDUCATION BEYOND FORM 3, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME, ENABLING OTHER STUDENTS TO DERIVE MAXIMUM BENEFIT FROM THEIR EDUCATION THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF CHINESE,+ THE WHITE PAPER SAID.
THE GOVERNMENT, IT SAID, +INTENDS TO REVIEW THE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION AS THESE DEVELOP.+
EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE BY THE GOVERNMENT TO FULFIL THE AIMS OF THE TREMENDOUS EXPANSION IN THE FIELD OF AIDED SECONDARY EDUCATION AS OUTLINED IN THE WHITE PAPER BUT THE SUPPORT OF ALL CONCERNED WILL BE REQUIRED TO ACHIEVE THE TARGETS.
