SYMPOSIUM ON DRUG ABUSE FOR TEACHERS

The Education Department has invited the principals of all

secondary schools and their teachers to attend a one-day symposium on

drug abuse later this month.

The symposium, organised by the Hong Kong Association of the

Pharmaceutical Industry and the Education Department, will be held at

the Grantham College of Education on February 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

"The aim of this symposium is to acquaint teachers with the

latest information on drug abuse education so that they will be on the

alert for signs and symptoms of drug-taking among young people," a spokesman

for the department said today.

The Deputy Director of Education (Professional), Mr. Ho Nge-ming

will open the symposium.

There will be four speakers during the morning session which

includes a question time and a film show.

In the afternoon three speakers will address the teachers followed

by an open forum.

Principals have been asked to nominate teachers who wish to attend
