REGULATIONS ON CRECHES AND NURSERIES BEING CONSIDERED
New legislation relating to creches and nurseries will soon be
introduced into the Legislative Council, the Secretary for Social Services,
the Hon. Li Fook-kow, said today.
In reply to a question from the Hon. Mrs. Joyce Symons, he said
drafts of the Child Care Centres Bill and regulations were being considered
by the departments concerned, and he anticipated that the bill would be
placed before the council during its current session,
The Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the Social Welfare
Advisory Committee would also be consulted before hand.
In answer to another question from Mrs. Symons, Mr. Li said it
was not intended to issue a report on investigations into the operations
of the nursery where an outbreak of measles occurred recently.
The nursery in question closed of its cwn accord on the day
after the cases of measles came to light," he said,
"The operator has now been located and has been charged in the
courts with two counts of cruelty to children under section 27(1) of the
Offences Against the Person Ordinance."
