In this connection, the spokesman said, the Director of Public

was considering whether or not it was more economical and practical

to set up a permanent plotting unit in the Public Works Department.

"The new metric plans now being produced will further establish

Hong Kong's alain to be the best mapped territory in the Far East and

possibly one of the best in the world," he added.

The new 1:500 plens will be strictly for engineering and architectural

use while the 1: 1,000 maps will, as in the case of other government maps

and plans, be put on public sale when they become available.
