The rise in the index for miscellaneous goods was mainly brought
about by increased prices for many Chinese language newspapers.
The
index for fuel and light also advanced, following an upward revision in
the prices of kerosene and liquefied petroleum gas at the beginning
of the month.
The Modified Consumer Price Index for July was 177, seven points
higher than that for the previous month.
