HIGH DEMAND FOR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
A record number of 13,264 British passports was issued by the
Immigration Department during the three-month period from April to June
this year.
A total of 5,496 passports was issued in June alone, the highest
ever for any one month.
In addition, 21,006 Certificates of Identity were issued to
local residents, compared with 14,957 in the same period of 1972, showing
an upward trend in the demand for travel documents.
Out of the 21,006 Certificates of Identity issued during the
quarter, the branch offices issued 11,304, representing an increase of
55 per cent over last year's figure.
This confirms the impression that more and more local residents
are taking advantage of cheap charter flights for overseas holidays",
a spokesman for the Immigration Department said.
