DEMOLITION OF OLD BUILDINGS FOR FLYOVER PROJECT
********
Thirteen disused pre-war buildings in the Yau Ma Tei area will
soon be demolished to make way for the construction of an elevated road
running from Gascoigne Road across Nathan Road to the Yau Ma Tei multi-
storey carpark.
These buildings, mostly two and three storey structures, are at
391-399 Nathan Road, 115-121 Battery Street and 630-636 Canton Road.
The five buildings in Nathan Road stand in the path of the proposed
flyover and the others in Battery Street and Canton Road will either be
directly affected by, or so close to, the later extension of the project that
their demolition is necessary.
Work on demolishing them is expected to start in early September
and will take about seven weeks to complete.
Construction of the flyover, from the Gascoigne Road and near Wylie
Road, will begin at the same time. This is scheduled for completion in two
years.
This section of elevated rond will form the first phase of the West
Kowloon Corridor project to distribute traffic in this part of the peninsula
and provide a direct link from the cross harbour tunnel to Kwai Chung and Tsuen
Wan.
