RECLAMATION FOR SHA TIN NEW TOWN

More than 40 acres of land at Sha Tin will be reclaimed to provide

more space for development of the new town.

The area to be formed is located north of the existing reclamation.

There will be space for a public housing estate, a temporary

sewage treatment works, and other community uses.

To accommodate households affected by clearance for the development

of the town, a further two acres of land will also be formed at Tung Lo Wan.

About 1.5 million cubic yards of earth will be required for the

overall project and this will be obtained from a borrow area near the Sha

Tin portal of the Lion Rock Tunnel.

To avoid traffic congestion, construction vehicles using public

roads will be restricted at weekends.

The site formation, including ancillary drainage work, is expected

to take 24 months to complete.
