LOCAL PHILANTHROPIST DONATES $5 MILLION TO COMUNITY PROJECTS
A prominent Chinese resident in Hong Kong has donated $5 million
to the government and collected another $500,000 from his friends, for the
purpose of helping various medical and social projects.
Half of the amount, $2.5 million, will be contributed to the
building fund of a centre for the Hong Kong Council of Social Service
which will also house the Federation of Medical Societies, the World
Health Foundation and other organisations.
The $500,000 from the donor's friends is to meet the cost of an
assembly hall in the building, to be named after Lady Trench, wife of
the former Governor, Sir David French.
Two medical projects will receive $1 million and $1.5 million
respectively, namely a specialist clinic situated in the eastern part
of Hong Kong Island, and a Dental Centre which is now under consideration
by the government.
