CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY EXHIBITION
An educational exhibition on the history of Chinese calligraphy
is now on display in the City Hall.
It depicts the development and changes of calligraphy in the past
35 centuries from the Shang dynasty to the Ch'ing dynasty.
Organisied by the Urban Council, the one-week exhibition is held
daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until next Wednesday (July 25) in the
Exhibition Hall of the City Hall Low Block.
The great masterpieces and the mainstreams of Chinese calligraphy
are shown in a pictorial account supported by short clear commentaries.
The various styles and calligraphic forms are also shown in
chronological order, including the oracle bone script, the bronze inscription,
the seal script, the clerical script, the draft script, the formal script
and the cursive script.
The different surfaces and objects on which these scripts were
applied are also illustrated.
