"If those plans have to be implemented," Dr. Choa said, "expectant
mothers may have to wke a longer journey to the hospital to which they
will be directed. My staff will make every effort to direct them to
the hospital nearest to their home. I must emphasise that expectant
mothers should not wait until the last minute to contact us - and of
course I would give that general advice in any circumstances.
"If this advice is followed, these plans will enable the maternity
service to carry on without undue inconvenience to expectant mothers."
