Information on traffic conditions measured by buried cables in the
road will be fed back to the computer which will then make changes to the
traffic signals to help the flow of traffic.
Additionally, information on traffic congestion will be fed to the
Traffic Police who will be able to take immediate action to clear traffic
jans due to accidents and other conditions.
It is also hoped that the system can be used by the Fire Services
to select fire routes whereby the computer will automatically influence the
traffic signal in favour of fire engines on their way to a fire.
The scheme for West Kowloon will cost about $10 million and should
be fully operational by 1976.
