On May 27, a trough developed over the south China coast and
conditions in Hong Kong became unsettled with occasional thunderstorms and
heavy showers. However, the crough dissipated and the weather improved
with long sunny periods on May 31,
Eleven aircraft were diverted due to adverse weather conditions
during the month.
No tropical cyclones developed over the western north Pacific
and the South China Sea during the month. This was the first time since 1934 when tropical cyclones were completely absent over the region during
the first five months of the year:
Thunderstorm and heavy rain warnings were issued on 15 occassions.
