ROBBERY STATISTICS
During last year, 35 illegal immigrants were prosecuted for
robbery and theft.
This was revealed by the Hon. Colonial Secretary, Sir Hugh
Norman-Walker in reply to a question by the Hon. R.H. Lobo in Legislative
Council today.
Statistics drawn up at the end of the year indicated that by
then 28 cases had resulted in conviction and two in acquittals, and
five were pending.
The overall figure of prosecutions for robbery and theft
offences for Hong Kong as a whole in 1972 was 6,963. The conviction
rate was 98.5 percent.
