WONG NEI CHUNG GAP ROAD WIDENED
Traffic flow in Wong Nei Chung Gap Road will be much improved
when an additional lane for up-hill traffic is opened in about May this
year.
Work on widening the road to provide the additional lane and
a six-foot pedestrian path on both sides is now 90 per cent complete.
About 2,400 feet of the roadway running up hill from its junction
with Tai Hang Road have been widened by 14 feet. In addition, a number
of dangerous bends have been eliminated.
When the improvement work is completed, vehicular traffic will
be able to move faster and safer along Wong Nei Chung Gap Road, which
is the main link to the southern part of Hong Kong Island.
At present, more than ten per cent of the traffic using this
road are goods vehicles. Coupled with the steep gradient, traffic on
the road often moves at a very slow pace.
