Yet, while our reserves have suffered serious losses in U.S. dollar and
Hong Kong dollar terms it is a tribute to the underlying strength of our
position that confidence in the exchange stability of the Hong Kong dollar
remains unimpaired, and I hope honourable Members will bear this in mind
when making their own assessment of the Hong Kong Government's management of
our monetary affairs over the past few years.
