Mr. Cater went on to say that government and other organisations had

spent a great deal of money and effort this year on the summer youth activities

programme which was launched "on a scale never before seen in Hong Kong."

He also outlined some of the activities made available to the youths

during the summer.

The overall co-ordination of the programme was undertaken by the

Central Committee for Youth Recreation.

Mr. Cater also paid high tribute to the efforts in making the Sports

Conference possible. "I hope that all of you will regard the past week, not

simply as a success, but a fruitful beginning: the basis from which further

and greater achievements may be realised.
