WEATHER EXPERTS ATTEND ECAFE CONFERENCE
The Director of the Royal Observatory, Mr. G.J. Bell, and the
Senior Scientific Officer, Dr. P.C. Chin, left today for Bangkok to attend
the 5th Session of the ECAFE World Meteorological Organisation Typhoon
Committee.

The six-day session which begins tomorrow will be attended by
meteorological and hydrological experts from many countries including
Australia, Germany, the United States and the Soviet Union.
Among the important items to be discussed will be disaster
planning and community preparedness. It is probable the delegates from
the Philippinee and America will outline their plans for modifying typhoons
during the 1973 session.
The Committee will also study the existing deficiencies, in the
warning of tropical cyclones and consider steps to accelerate the provision of basic meteorological and telecommunication facilities for the dissemination
of information in some countries in the region.
