FIRST MEETING HELD TO DISCUSS IMPLEMENTING URBAN COUNCIL WHITE PAPER
The first meeting has been held between members of the Urban
Council's Finance and General Purposes Select Committee and members of
the Colonial Secretariat responsible for implementing the proposals made
in the White Paper on the Urban Council.
The Secretary, Urban Council, Mr. J.A.M. Tinson, said that
it had been called mainly to bring members of the Council up-to-date
on progress made in drafting amendments to legislation to bring the terms
of the White Paper into force. This had now reached an advanced stage.
Other aspects discussed were the future financing of the Urban
Council, including the Council's Public Works Programme and the constitution
of the new Council which will be set up on April 1, 1973.
