The Financial Secretary announced in Legislative
Council today Government's decision, in principle, to proceed with the construction of the Mass Transit Railway
subject to satisfactory arrangements being made for financing it and for letting contracts.
The Hon. J.J. Robson, Director of Public Works,
will hold a press conference in the G.I.S. theatre at 3.30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at which he will answer
questions on the mass transit system. Also present
at the press conference will be Mr. A.H. Wilkins,
Government Highway Engineer, Mass Transit; Mr. G.J. Bentley, Government Land Surveyor; Mr. B.K. Yu,
Assistant Engineer, Mass Transit; and Mr. C.R. Coulson,
Resident Partner, Freeman Fox & Partners (Far East).
