COURT ORDER AGAINST PARENT
Might Be Useful Deterrent Against Juvenile Crime
The Attorney General, the Hon. D.T.E. Roberts, said today he agreed
that there were cases in which an order against a parent under section 10
of the Juvenile Offenders Ordinance might serve as a useful deterrent.
He was replying in today's Legislative Council meeting to the
Hon. Wilson Wang, who asked whether the Attorney General would take steps
through prosecuting officers to invite the Courts, in cases where such
action would be an effective measure for combatting juvenile crime, to
make ordere under this section on the parent or guardian of a child or
young person.
These orders would be for the payment of a fine, damages or costs
or requiring the parent or guardian to give security for good behaviour.
Mr. Roberts said: "I will accordingly ask prosecuting officers to
suggest to the courts that they should consider making use of this section in
appropriate circumstances."
