THRER NEW SAND DEPOTS COMING INTO USE ON NEW YEAR'S DAY

$1 Increase In Price Of Sand

Three new sand depots will come into operation at Kwun Tong, Tail Lap

Chung and Sha Tin as from January 1, 1961 to cope with the increased demand

for Government sand for building purposes.

The three new depots are additional to the existing Government sand

depots at North Point and Hung Hon.

Simultaneously with the establishment of the three depots, the system

of direct delivery which has been in force in certain mainland areas will be

discontinued, and consumers will have to make their own arrangements for

collection from any of the five depots.

The price of sand supplied by Government for building purposes is

being increased from $8 to $9 a oubio yard ex-depot as from the New Year,

To meet recent complaints about the quality of sand delivered,

especially in the New Territorios, arrangements have been made to increase

greatly the capacity of the contractor's washing and screening plant.

At all five depots washed and screened sand will be available on and

after January 1, 1961.
