Robinson to object to (and be necessary to refer to England for reference) was that the Military demands extended so far into and occupied so much of the sites most valuable for Colonial occupation. He objected to me relative to the site I propose for the General Military Hospital, \"the Batteries (SW)\".\n\nAlthough I did hear that the site of \"the Batteries\" was coveted by some of the Civil Community - naturally, as it would form a convenient site for villa residences in the neighbourhood of the proposed Sea Frontage, Stor houses (Godowns), and the Naval Coal Stores - its suitability may be seen by the accompanying plan.\n\nHowever, as I anticipated giving that site up, I considered it necessary for the purposes designed, viz: \"a defensive Battery and Barrack for the same.\" His Excellency always acknowledged to me the necessity of the claims of the Imperial Government to certain sites for defences.",
