Starts `7901/89`\n\nSir,\n\nThe Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury have had before Them Mr Bramston's letter of the 5th instant enclosing the Draft of an Ordinance to prohibit the unauthorised issue of Notes in Hong Kong.\n\nIn reply, I am to request you to inform the Marquess of Ripon that They concur in the draft Ordinance.\n\nIt may however be well, in view of the action of the Chartered Bank of India, &c. in the Malay Protected States, to prohibit the circulation of Bank Post Bills as well as the other Notes specified.\n\nI am,\nSir,\nYour obedient servant,\nEntterillin\n\nThe Under Secretary of State, COLONIAL OFFICE.",

        "content_text": "## DRAFT.\n\nnote-issue in the Straits Settlements.\n\nWith regard to the application of the Mercantile Bank of India (Limited) I am to observe that there can be no question of permitting fresh note-issues by private banks in the Straits Settlements, now that a State issue on properly regulated lines has been established in that Colony.
