In view of the high rate of exchange and of the fact that all the ship's wages, disbursements and expenses are paid in local currency, the owners submit either that the hire should be increased or that it should be fixed in dollars on a pre-war basis of exchange or otherwise paid in dollars at such a rate as will render it a fair and proper payment in view of all expenses being being paid in local currency and they protest against the sterling hire of 12/- accordingly.\n\nThe position is emphasised by the fact that the ship is requisitioned for the use of the local Government which derives its revenue in local currency and will derive a great benefit from the requisitioning under any circumstances, rendering it inequitable that they should derive a further benefit owing to the hire being paid in sterling.\n\nWe have, etc.\n\nDeacon, Looker, Deacon & Harston.\n\nCommodore H.
