Fortunately, however, nothing has since occurred to induce him to make such a request.\n\nThe Municipal Council of Hongkong forwarded an application for a loan of some rifles for the purposes of self-defence. Requests of this nature are dealt with by the Officer in Command of the Forces, and handed this application to Major-General Sargent, who, after communicating with the Acting British Consul, forwarded it.\n\n& have the honour to be,\n\nYour Lordship's Most Obedient Servant,\n\nStannistering the Command,\n\n3.36.",

Govt for the extension of the Naval Yard at Kowloon.\n\nIt is presumed that the corresp. in question (of the dates noted in the margin) has been forwarded to the Admn direct by Commodore Kuper.\n\n3. & I am to state that Sir H. Robinson Concurs in this view of the Govmt that the Govt should grant them as much of the ground as may be possible, on the most liberal terms that may be required.\n\nCom. Kuper 17 Aug.  \nGovt 30 Sep.  \ndef.  \nComm. Kuper 5 Oct.  \nS. Bowen 9 Oct.\n\n355\n\nIt is considered that the terms should be considerably less than those which a private lease giver would inform an intended purchaser. He is in favour of a lease for ... years at the entire rent of $20 per acre, which appears to be the rate, but equal to the quit rent paid by the purchasers of the marine lots to the South of the Naval Yard without any premium, would be a fair arrangement. This would amount to £2040 a year, if the ... acres is taken.\n\n4. The Govmt asks for instructions by telegraph on the assumption that immediate action is required.",
