        "content_text": "Aylesburg, 11th Sept 1841.\n\n13\n\nI have the honour to receive the notification of my appointment by Lord Stanley to the Office of Clerk of Works + Civil Engineer at Hongkong.\n\nI beg to observe that the terms upon which I understood the appointment was given were, as stated to Captain Lawson, R.E., namely. Salary £405 per annum, Passage free, Outfit allowance £100, one half salary during the voyage; the latter £200 to be paid in full, before leaving England.\n\nI am concerned to hear of another statement from Colonel Wilbraham & Captain Collinson, R.E., viz' Salary £405 to commence from the date of my arrival on the Colony, £100 for outfit, half salary during the voyage; besides £2000 in value of outfit to be paid in advance.\n\nI think there is a discrepancy in the particulars.\n\nI have the honour to state that, in considering the expenses which will be necessarily incurred;\n\n:: The Under Secretary of State for Her Majesty's Colonies,",
