He expects to sail by P. & O. at the beginning of November, and on Monday the 28th October he is moving himself and his wife to the Anglesey Arms Hotel, Menai Bridge, Anglesey. He wanted to be assured on three points. \n\n(1) That he and his wife could if necessary communicate with each other by telegraph through the medium of the Colonial Office and the Colonial Government: in particular he would ask that as soon as he could report his arrival at Hong Kong his wife should be informed.\n\n(2) He will only be able to take £25 in cash on the voyage out. He finds that there is difficulty in arranging with his Bank (the Midland Bank) to obtain money in Hong Kong by the ordinary means. He hoped we could arrange for his cheques to be cashed by the Hong Kong Treasury while he was in the Colony.\n\n(3) As letters and even telegrams take so long to reach Anglesey in these days, he wanted the Crown Agents or ourselves to communicate with him by telephone and telegram as soon as the date and time and place of embarkation in the P. & O. ship were settled.\n\nHe also presumed that he would be met on arrival at Hong Kong and quarters would have been reserved for him.\n\nCould you please inform the Crown Agents as to the third point above and give them his Anglesey address. (He promised to give me his Anglesey telephone number as soon as he returned home, but he has not yet done so. We can probably get it out of an A.A. handbook).\n\nAs regards the cashing of cheques in Hong Kong and being met there on arrival, we had better telegraph briefly to the O.A.G. as soon as he is safely on board the P. & O. steamer.\n\nEu Gant \n25.10.40.\n\n## \nTo R.G.
