Jebsen & Co., Hongkong.\n\nStaut.\n\nI am much obliged for your letter of the 16th inst.\n\nIn regard to your suggestion that the guarantee of the Bank of England would provide a better security than the guarantee of the London Agency of the Direction der Disconto Gesellschaft, I venture to suggest that it would be impracticable for us to procure a guarantee from the Bank of England. The Management of the Disconto-Gesellschaft point out that a guarantee given by them as the duly authorised attorneys of the Disconto-Gesellschaft in London, could not be repudiated by their Head Office in Berlin, even if the latter desired to repudiate it after the war, which in the opinion of the London Management is extremely unlikely.
