Princess Alexandra's last day in Hongkong

These photographs illustrate some of the things Princess Alexandra did on her last day in Hongkong. In the top left she is seen accepting a gift of an ivory statuette of the Taoist goddess Mo Ku, at the Miramar Hotel reception yesterday given by the Colony's Chinese civic organisations. Standing beside the Princess is Mr Tse Yu-chuen, Mrs Kwok Chan and the Governor Sir Robert Black.

With the Japanese military forces in North China aeem- ingly quiescent, except for large-scale manoeuvres October, the naval arm has been the subject of most of the publicity attending Japan's "positive policy" in China in recent months... That the navy constitutes a powerful potential weapon against some of the most important areas in China is just beginning to be realised by Chinese and foreign observers.

TACED with the task of I making 877 runs to avert defeat, with nine wickets in hand, Australia collapsed again today in their second innings and were dismissed for only 58 runs, thus giving England victory in the first Cricket Test of the present series by $22 runs.
