on Friday when an Advisory Committee, under the chair- manship of Mr C. H. Itobertson, General Manager of Shell Co. of Hongkong, examines the current amenl. ties of Hongkong's trans- port.

The terms of reference of the

committee are to keep under review the routes, frequency, capacity and fares of trans- port; to note the inter- connection of routes; to take into

account the existing routes for transport to- gother with the reasonable demands of the public.

It is stated that all the above must also be examined in the light of the legitimate interests of the transport companies.

The travelling public are con- sidered Insofar that their written complaints and sug- gestions will receive the al- tention of the Advisory Committee.

I

much

does not require thought to appreciate that the Committee are going to have a difficult time in try- ing to relate what is possible in transport to what is needed.

What every

passenger needs,

of course, is a frequent bus service right on his own doorstep, and one thing is certain... in inviting complaints and suggestions from the public, the Com- mitteo can be sure of get- ting them.

The question is, what is the situation in Hongkong, that is looking at the position objectively.
