The stock market closed narrowly mixed in more

active trading.

The market was a Bitte higher at the opening following yeater- day's into rally. It climbed ahead substantially in the frat hune and continued to climb in early i afternoon trading, But profit- taking entered the market and erased virtually wil the gains by the close.

Most guins and losses ranged from a few cents to around one dollar a share.

Even the major market Indi- cators closed mixed. Standard and Poor's

comprehensive 500 stock index closed a mere three cents higher at $66.99. The S& P 425 Industrials also gained three cents at $70.50.
