INFLUENCE
In 1000 the guilds entirely lost hele intuence in Zurich's pro- fessional life and from then a number of new guilds of o purely social character were founded in the various quarters: of the city.
Nowadays, the main setivity of the guilds consists in the organisation of Zurich's annual Spring Festival, the "Sechselau- ten", or "Six o'clock chimes."
This most popular Festival takes place every year in April! and receive its name in ret membrance of that Monday on which. according to old tradi tlun, the church bells peal out again at 6 pm Instead of 5 pm. to announce that the day's work is over.
