(chang ki) Champlonship, promoted by the South China Athletic Association, has been won by a boy prodigy of four- teen, Master Mak Shiu-mun. The tournament, which was concluded on Thursday last, proved very popular. Large numbers of chess eu- thusiasts thronged the audi- torium of the Confusclan Association every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evening. The results, accom- panied by detailed records and critical remarks by competent chess experts were published day after day in all leading vernaculor papers and were eagerly read and discussed by all classes of people.

Besides Mak Shiu-man, contestants included. such luminaries

as Kong Ku- woon, Ng Sui-sang, Chan Tak-pui, Tang Tit-yu (former champion of Hong- kong), Ho Sing-mo, and many others.

Kong Ku-woon who has to his credit a smart victory over the great master Chow Tuk-yu, generally regarded aa China's foremost chang ki exponent was beaten into second place by a single point; while Ho Sing-mo, the youngest player in the tournament, being only twelve, showed great pro- mise, and ironically enough, he gained the distinction of being the only player to win e game from the champion.
