New Clarke Chapman
winch shown
The new A.C. cargo winch shown by Clarke, Chop- man and Co. Ltd., at the Engineering and Marino Exhibition in London was shown in Poland at tho rocant Poznon Fair. It has been developed for ships with three phase · A.Č.. supply.
The winch has o landem squirrel cage motor consisting of two stators in a common frame and two squirrel cage rotors on a common shaft. One staler is wound for four and eight poles and the other for 32 poles, Turec motor speeds are obtained with this combination, ie, approxim mately 1,800, 800 and 225 r.p.m. The motor on a 60 cycle supply.
is ted with an integral disc type magnetic brake.
The winch incorporates R cooling system without manual operation of ventilators. A motor driven fan in the box section bedplate clrculates the internal air of the totally en- closed and watertight motor, Direct which acts as a coolant. cooling of the stator is achieved second fan, which drives by A stream of fresh air from be- low the bedplate and blows this between the heavily ribbed stator and a wrapping shield. The air intake laces down- wards and is self-draining,
The control gear consists of a lever-operated master controller, which can be placed In any con- venient position and a contactor panel sheet steel enclosure for mounting in a deckhouse.
The winch has spur reduction gearing. A fixed reduction gear is used for a three-ton winch but there is a chango speed gear
for a 3/5-ton winch. The lowest motor speed is specially suitable BALI 20 for breaking out and landing 2700 20.20
