of the English
By John Melvin
The sheer ferocity on the face of 6ft. 4in. fast bowler Bill Bowes convinced Donald Bradman that he was about to receive a bouncer. Even as the Yorkshireman ended his run Austra- lia's golden boy of cricket was shaping to hook.
It was not a bouncer. Bradman missed the ball completely and heard the
crash as his leg stump rocked back.
Bradman, bowled Bowes, nought and all Australia wondered if their worst fears were being realised. Was the wonder-boy losing his golden touch?
