A look at the "baby"

mighty Rootes industrial family

(Why is the mighty Rootes Group lavishing caro and attention an a small firm that makes air-conditioning equipment?

Alexander Thomson

talks to the man in charge and reveals the story of initiative and fore- sight./

By Alexander Thomson

Maidstone, March 7. This is the town where motor millionaires Lord Rootes and his brother, Sir Reginald started their climb to fame and fortune. Here as young men from nearby Hawkhurst, they had their garage from which the £58 million Rootes Motors has grown up. And it is here they have established the new enterprise that is so tiny, a tiddler by their standards.: that it is surprising and intriguing that they should be concerned with it.

Baltic Exchange

London, Mar. 8. B00482 Although the freight mar- ket has been quiet today on the Baltic Exchange, rice bookings from Burma to Cuba provided interest in this section.'
